What is a Obstetrician & Gynaecologist?

An Obsetrician and Gynaecologist are not the same.

• Obstetrics (the OB) involves care during pre-conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and immediately after delivery.
   

• Gynaecology (the GYN) involves care of all women's health issues.
   

An obstetrician provides care during pregnancy and delivers babies. A gynaecologist doesn’t treat people who are pregnant or deliver babies, but specializes in the female reproductive system. It’s common for healthcare providers to combine these two areas of medicine. This is called obstetrics and gynaecology or Ob/Gyn.
 

How can our Obstetrician & Gynaecologist help you?

Our obstetrician will provide routine prenatal care to people who are pregnant. Also diagnose and treat complications during pregnancy. Our obstetrician also can:
 

• Prenatal screenings, exams and lab tests.

• Evaluating your baby’s size, growth and position in your uterus.

• Detecting congenital anomalies or potential complications in conjunction with maternal-fetal medicine providers.

• Using ultrasound, blood tests, urinalysis and other tools to monitor your pregnancy.

• Treating health conditions that can affect your pregnancy or your baby.

• Managing labor and delivery, including labor induction, emergencies and medications.

• Providing postpartum care for up to six weeks after childbirth.

 

Now on the Gynaecologists side you would get diagnose and treated for conditions specific to women. We can offer medical, hormonal and surgical treatments.  You can come see our gynaecologist if you have had:
 

• period problems, such as irregular or heavy periods

• pain in the lower abdomen

• unusual vaginal bleeding or pain

• infertility, contraception or family planning

• miscarriage

• concerns about your pelvic floor

• cancer of the ovaries, cervix or uterus

• menopause or hormone replacement therapy
